Ways to Give
The Rehabilitation Hospital of the Cape and Islands (RHCI) welcomes and depends on the generosity of corporations, foundations, individuals and families to provide the resources that help us respond to the needs of our patients. Your continued support will help us maintain the level of excellence that you and your loved ones have come to expect from RHCI.
Annual Fund:
RHCI Annual Fund is comprised of donors who pledge their support to the hospital by making annual, unrestricted gifts. Hospital supporters' annual, unrestricted gifts create a continuous stream of income - a vital resource that allows RHCI to address its most critical priorities.
Unrestricted (or flexible) giving is one of the most precious resources available to RHCI. An unrestricted gift - a contribution that is not directed toward a particular program or service - may be applied by the hospital to its areas of most immediate need, whether buying essential new medical equipment, hiring and training the world's best caregivers, or covering the costs of care for patients who would otherwise be unable to afford treatment.
Designated Gifts (Major/Restricted Giving):
You can designate your gift to support any particular hospital area or initiative of your choosing. Learn more about the hospital's Programmatic and Capital needs.
Tribute Gifts:
You may designate any gift to the RHCI as a tribute gift in memory or in honor of an individual, family, group or occasion. For more information about making a tribute gift, please contact the Office of Development at 508-833-4004 or mpatstone@rhci.org
Circle of Giving:
In the summer of 2003, RHCI broke ground for the Figawi Charities' Circle of Giving, a handsome brick walkway surrounding the flagpole that faces the front entrance to RHCI. The Circle of Giving walkway is paved with bricks purchased by, or for, those whose lives have been touched by RHCI.
- Bricks may be purchased to honor or memorialize a loved one, extend appreciation to an exceptional caregiver, or support RHCI as an outstanding community resource.
- Each brick will be treated for durability and engraved with the name of the donor or a designee.
- Bricks are priced at $150 for a 4" x 8" and $300 for an 8" x 8."
- Proceeds from the Circle of Giving are used to support RHCI's ongoing facilities and equipment needs.

Pension Protection Act of 2006 (PPA 2006):
A new tax-saving opportunity now exists for charitable giving. Under the PPA 2006, RHCI Donors who are 70½ or older can make gifts in tax years 2006 and 2007 using funds from their individual retirement accounts (IRAs and Roth IRAs) without incurring income tax on the withdrawn funds. PPA 2006 allows you to use an IRA without tax complications to impact the area of RHCI that is most important to you. Please click here for more information.
Planned Giving:
Donors can make a significant gift to the hospital by including RHCI in their estate plans or by funding a life income gift. Life income gifts, such as charitable gift annuities provide a donor with a lifetime income and tax benefits. Click here to learn more.
