RHCI’s Brain Injury Program assists survivors of brain injuries to achieve their highest potential in physical and cognitive function, including the return to home, work and family, and reintegration into the community.  Physicians and therapists specializing in neuro-rehabilitation provide a comprehensive approach to brain injury recovery for those with traumatic brain injury or acquired brain injury. RHCI’s Medical Staff includes a neurologist and rehabilitation physicians with expertise in brain injury rehabilitation. 

RHCI Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program Components

  • Collaborative, dedicated Brain Injury Team of clinicians experienced in the medical, physical, psychological, cognitive and social issues of brain injured patients
  • Expertise in the behavioral and psychiatric effects of brain injury
  • Pharmacologic management of the brain injured patient
  • Specialized services, ordered by the patient’s physician as needed, including: Neurology, Psychiatry, Ophthalmology, Audiology ServicesDriver Assessment ProgramLow Vision ProgramOrthotics ClinicProsthetics Clinic, etc.
  • Advanced therapy technologies, including the NESS H200  to promote return of hand function,  the NESS L300 to treat foot drop, Vital Stim  technology to enhance swallowing, and the LiteGait to improve mobility
  • Private rooms, low stimulation environment, security features
  • Functional Living Apartment to promote a safe transition home
  • Extensive case management with links for ongoing treatment and support after discharge
     
    After being discharged from a rehabilitation hospital, most survivors of brain injury need continuing treatment.  RHCI's outpatient physical, occupational and/or speech therapy services focus on improving the ability to perform daily activities and promoting increasing independence.  RHCI's skilled outpatient therapists offer specialized neuro-rehabilitation therapies at outpatient centers in Sandwich, Yarmouth and Orleans. 

RHCI's HealthPLUS Adaptive Sports and Recreation Program includes many seasonal activities appropriate for persons with varying degrees of physical and cognitive disability.  Activities include adapted golf, cycling, paddling, kite flying and drumming.
