Maximizing Independence for People with Low Vision
Low vision refers to a significant loss of sight that can’t be corrected medically or surgically. RHCI offers evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation to maximize the use of the individual’s sight while minimizing the impact of vision loss on daily life.
Services include:
- Comprehensive evaluation to determine how vision can be enhanced
- Training in the use of low vision optical devices, such as magnifiers, filters
- Training with non-optical adaptive devices, such as special lighting, writing guides
- Counseling to facilitate adjustment
- Low Vision Team includes optometrists specializing in low vision care and occupational therapists trained in low vision treatment and rehabilitation
Low vision services are designed to help individuals with vision impairment due to:
- Macular degeneration
- Head injury
- Brain trauma
- Stroke
- Cataracts
- Diabetic retinopathy
- Detached retina
- Glaucoma
- Retinitis pigmentosa
