
Vestibular Rehabilitatition
Physical therapy approach to enhance the central nervous system's ability to compensate for dizziness and loss of balance due to inner ear problems or certain types of strokes or head injury.
Goals of therapy:
- Decrease vertigo or dizziness
- Improve balance
- Increase activity and functional levels
For patients with:
- Inner ear disorders, such as vestibular neuritis, bacterial or viral labyrinthitis, inner ear trauma
- Chronic unresolved inner ear disorders or chronic vestibulopathy
- Episodic positional vertigo
- Acoustic neuroma, ototoxicity and other uncommon vestibule pathology
- Stroke or head injury affecting the brainstem, midbrain or cerebellum
Referrals preferred following confirmed diagnosis by otolaryngologist, neurologist or otoneurologist.
