Physicians & Staff
Physicians at RHCI are leading specialists in the field of rehabilitation. The full-time staff consists of a neurologist and six physiatrists, or specialists in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Physiatrists (pronounced fizz-i-a-trist) provide non-surgical treatment for diseases, injuries and conditions of the bones, muscles and nervous system. Neurologists diagnose and treat diseases of the brain, spinal cord, muscles and nerves.
Our physicians are able to diagnose and treat conditions which have resulted in a loss of function in areas including ambulation, thinking and communicating, behavior and mood, wound healing, swallowing, and other activities that are necessary for independent living. They are part of each patient's RHCI Team and direct each patient's individualized rehabilitation treatment program. Patients are seen by their RHCI physician regularly, daily if needed. RHCI provides on-site physician coverage 24-hours a day, seven days a week to assure that any issues that may arise can be promptly evaluated and treated.
In addition to caring for inpatients, RHCI's staff physicians provide diagnostic and treatment services for outpatients with a wide variety of injuries and conditions. When rehabilitation services are necessary, they work closely with RHCI's therapists, both in Sandwich and at our conveniently-located centers throughout the Cape, to design individualized treatment programs aimed at assisting their patients in achieving their goals.
